About the wool:
Our carded NZ wool has shorter, springy fibres (~27 microns) that felt quickly and build up smoothly. It’s ideal for 3D projects, flat felting, or even wet felting. From experience, this is the most reliable and beginner-friendly wool for needle felting.

About the mat:
A sturdy 20 × 20 × 5 cm high-density foam pad. Big enough for most projects while still easy to store. Tip: cover it with scrap fabric to stop fibres transferring when you change colours.

About the needles:
36 gauge needles are best for starting with coarser wool and shaping. The 40 gauge needle is finer and helps with neat details and smooth finishes. Always poke straight in and out to avoid bending.

How to use:
Shape your wool roughly by hand, place it on the mat, and start felting with a 36 gauge needle. As the wool firms up, swap to a 40 gauge needle for details. Keep peeling your work off the mat so it doesn’t get stuck.
