Why makers love Maori wool
- 70+ repeatable shades with rich, natural tones
- Pre-blended fibres – easy to felt and quick to build up
- Perfect for needle felting, wet felting, embellishments, and spinning
- Excellent as a base layer, core wool, or finishing surface
- Approx. 27 microns – grips well, ideal for 3D projects
- Mulesing-free wool, dyed to Oeko-Tex Standard 100, GOTS 5.0 and GRS certified
Tip: 36 triangular and 38 star needles work brilliantly with Maori carded wool. Finer gauges (40–42) can be used for delicate details, but aren’t essential.
Wool blends
Maori & Bergschaf: 70% Maori (27 microns) + 30% Bergschaf (33 microns, from Austria). Both dyed to Oeko-Tex Standard 100 in DHG’s certified dyehouse.
Bergschaf wool: 33 microns, selected for quality consistency and natural melange tones.
Colour disclaimer
We do our best to show colours accurately, but screens vary and natural batch differences occur. For exact matches, please use our wool sample cards.
Please note: These wools are carefully washed before carding, but tiny grass bits may remain – this is normal in natural fibres.
How to use
Begin by roughly shaping your wool. Compressing firmly will speed up felting. Use a coarse needle to start shaping, peeling work from the mat as you go. Swap to a finer needle once it firms up and continue until your piece holds its shape.
